Benenden Village Hall are pleased to announce that Staplehurst Monarchs Football Club will be using the football pitch on the recreation field beside the hall this season.
New goalposts have been purchased at the pitch lines marked out.
It is some years since competitive football was last played at Benenden and with the passing of time the goals had fallen into disrepair. Thanks to a joint initiative by Benenden Village Trust, Benenden Village Hall and Staplehurst Monarchs Football Club, and grant support from the Football Foundation, football will return this season with a newly formed Staplehurst Monarchs FC Development side
The Monarchs have almost 30 youth and adult sides providing football for men, women, girls and boys of all abilities from across the Weald of Kent. Looking for a second base in the area to host matches, Wayne Totterdell, manager of their new Development side, has worked with BVT and Benenden Village Hall to source funding from the Football Foundation for the purchase of new state of the art box net goals for the recreation ground. The additional funding required was raised by Wayne, who organised a Staplehurst Monarchs U18’s fundraising match against a Bell & Jorrocks All Star side at Frittenden.
The removal of the old goals and installation of the new goals was kindly undertaken by Wayne and a team of volunteers from Monarchs, including local contractor Steve Fagg who very kindly provided his services and equipment free of charge.
The goalposts will be kept in situ for use by all the community and for all the budding future football stars in the village.
The Staplehurst Monarchs FC Development team play their first home game at Benenden on Sunday 15th September, kick off 10.30am. This will be followed with a match played by the Staplehurst Monarchs FC Girls U14’s, kick off @ 12:45.
